Something is happening in Southwest Palatinate: The dilapidated Biebermühle train station is the focus of extensive renovation. The Südwestpfalz district plans to invest around 13 million euros in the renovation of the listed station building and the adjacent bridge over the Rodalb. This information comes from a recent report by the Rhine Palatinate.

The Schönhofen engineering firm has been commissioned to examine whether the bridge needs to be renovated or rebuilt. Over 2.4 million euros come from the state's regional future program, more than half of which will go towards the renovation of the station building. The district itself is also spending around 1.3 million euros on the measures. The municipalities of Rodalben and Thaleischweiler-Wallhalben are also contributing to the renovation.

Public use and new perspectives

After the renovation work, the station building will not only become a chic contact point for travelers, but also function as a tourist information center. At a district council meeting, SPD parliamentary group leader Peter Spitzer asked questions about the ownership of the property. District Administrator Susanne Ganster and Thomas Peifer from the development company explained that the development company will transfer the building to the municipality. The establishment of a special purpose association for this purpose is already underway.

But what about the commercial spaces? An intermunicipal commercial area around Biebermühle train station is currently being developed. These plans date back to March 19, 2021, when the reactivation of brownfield sites to combat the lack of commercial space in the Southwest Palatinate region was specified.
