An impressive display of flowers is currently being prepared in the picturesque palace gardens of Trier. The planting work began around November 7th, 2025, and you can already feel the anticipation of the impending awakening of spring. With the help of thousands of crocuses that put down roots here, the green heart of the city is brought back to life. A total of over 370,000 flower bulbs will be planted in the ground, including a remarkable number of 100,000 crocuses, which will find their place directly behind the scientific library, as 5vier reports.
The mix of different species used here is particularly exciting. In addition to the crocuses, winter aconites and snowdrops are also planted at the kiosk in the palace gardens as well as another batch of 100,000 daffodils at the northern distribution circle, planted by machine. Around 30,000 daffodils and imperial crowns are hand-planted in the flower beds around the Porta Nigra. These blooming beauties will enchant the city center of Trier with their splendor of color.
Use planting time creatively
The planting time is important because autumn is the ideal time to put crocus bulbs in the ground. These little wonders of nature usher in spring and offer a picturesque landscape that surprises with bright colors. An important rule when planting crocuses: the bulbs need well-drained soil and should be planted 3-4 cm deep with the pointed end upwards at 3-4 cm intervals.
