Mother (19) from France arrested during check on A64 – child abduction prevented!

An alarming situation occurred on Whit Sunday, June 8, 2025, on the A64 motorway, when the federal police in Trier arrested a 19-year-old driver from France who was wanted for child abduction. This suspected confiscation was discovered during a routine border check, during which the personal circumstances of the inmates were also checked alongside traffic. In addition to the driver, her two small children, aged one and three, as well as two other Romanian citizens were in the vehicle. It emerged that the children had previously been removed from a care facility, raising officials' concerns about how sol.de reported.

The federal police finally determined that the young mother was urgently wanted, according to French authorities. Their actions are deemed to endanger the well-being of their children. She was arrested on the spot and the children and mother were then handed over to the youth welfare office, which is now in contact with the French authorities about the next steps. The other two passengers, however, were released at large.

Complexity of child abduction

The issue of child abduction is a sensitive and complex area that often has legal gray areas. Cross-border child abduction occurs when one parent takes their children abroad without the consent of the other parent. In such cases, the German authorities can, for example via the Foreign Office, offer support, but the courts of the affected countries play a crucial role. These cannot be influenced directly, which makes the regulation of such cases complicated. Parents can submit an urgent application for a ban on leaving the country in order to prevent impending injustice.

The recognition of court decisions on parental responsibility is subject to European regulations and can be complicated by national differences. It is advisable to seek out-of-court solutions to avoid protracted disputes; Appropriate advice centers such as the central contact point for cross-border child conflicts are available.

This current situation clearly shows how important the work of the Federal Police is to protect the well-being of children. The cross-border aspects of child abduction require a high degree of cooperation between the responsible authorities in order to provide the affected families with the best possible support and to overcome current challenges. Both the authorities and social services stand by with a watchful eye to ensure the well-being of the children and comply with the legal framework.
