Pfenning Group starts climate-friendly truck tours in Nerdlen!

The Pfenning Group, a key player in logistics, recently took a significant step towards sustainable mobility. From the end of October 2025, climate-neutral truck tours will start from Nerdlen in the Vulkaneifel. The company will rely on bio-CNG, which enables a switch from fossil diesel. This measure was supported by the opening of a new CNG filling station on October 30, 2025 by OG Clean Fuels. This filling station, which is open to the public, will be available not only to the Pfenning Group, but also to other transport companies in the Eifel and will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. According to the Kfz-Anzeiger, the introduction of CNG trucks is intended as a pilot project in order to convert the entire truck fleet in the long term.

What exactly is implemented at Pfenning? The plan is to introduce a total of 20 CNG trucks, with the aim of expanding the fleet to 60 vehicles. This plan is no coincidence, as pressure is growing on transport companies to use environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil fuels. OG Clean Fuels describes on their site that the need and demand for bio-CNG in the transportation industry is constantly increasing. There are currently around 160 CNG filling stations across Germany that offer sustainably produced organic CNG - a clear sign that the industry is changing.

A network for the future

The expansion of OG Clean Fuels' filling station network is strategically aligned. A press release states that expansion into France is also planned through the takeover of the Proviridis Group on November 5, 2025. In the future, customers will be supplied with energy for climate-friendly mobility at almost 400 locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy and France. OG Clean Fuels attaches great importance to sustainable drives such as bio-CNG, HVO100 and green hydrogen. This not only brings economic benefits, but is also a necessary step towards meeting environmental regulations.

If you look at other large companies in the industry, such as EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr, it becomes clear that the trend is heading in a similar direction. EDEKA also relies on bio-CNG for delivery and is planning an entire fleet of around 130 CNG trucks. DHL has also already invested in heavy trucks to further reduce its own CO2 emissions. The Keller Group from Ditzingen also regularly refuels at OG Clean Fuels and uses regenerative drives to save CO2.

The challenges of the industry

During the conversation it becomes clear that the economic use of fossil diesel is increasingly viewed critically. Customers expect transport companies to switch to climate-friendly drives. Electric trucks cannot currently be used economically across the board. That is why CNG trucks are considered a viable solution to meet the new mobility requirements. Achim Wiedey, sales manager at OG Clean Fuels, emphasizes that it is important to avoid blank spots on the map and to secure locations for road freight transport.

Overall, it shows that the introduction of bio-CNG and CNG trucks at Pfenning is an important building block for sustainable logistics. Transport companies must think creatively and economically in order to master the challenges of the future. The Pfenning Group is not alone in this, but is supported by a strong network of gas stations and active initiatives. The transformation of the truck fleet is in full swing, and Cologne and the surrounding area are taking the first step towards a climate-neutral future.
