Feuerinferno in Kirchheimbolanden: wind turbine threatens to become a danger!

In the past few days, there have been several incidents in Germany that attracted the attention of the authorities and the population. The focus is on a fire in Kirchheimbolanden, in which a wind turbine went up in flames. The fire brigade has advised residents to keep windows and doors closed. The technical defect is suspected as the cause of the fire.

In addition, a considerable power failure in the Westerwald occurred on New Year's morning, in which around 30,000 households were without electricity in the municipalities of Westerburg, Rennerod, Hachenburg and Bad Marienberg. The failure lasted about eight hours and the network operator Westnetz attributes the disruption to ice breaks as a possible cause.

further incidents with wind turbines

A blocking circuit of 350 meters has been set up to protect residents from falling parts, such as rotor blades. The authorities have asked the operator to remove fiber from the affected area and dispose of the earth on the wind turbine accordingly. The discussion about safety precautions to wind turbines is thus sparked again, especially since there are still no nationwide regulations for permanently installable extinguishing systems that could recognize and extinguish fires in gondolas themselves.

With these incidents it becomes clear that both the technical security of wind turbines and the environmental aspects are increasingly in focus. The events in Kirchheimbolanden and Clausnitz emphasize the need to deal with the risks of such systems and to act accordingly.
