Zweibrücken strengthens garrison town: new apartments for soldiers handed over!
Something is happening in the garrison town of Zweibrücken. With the breath of fresh air that the city is receiving through the cooperation with its subsidiary Gewobau, new standards are being set for the accommodation of soldiers. Modernized apartments on Ontariostrasse were handed over to soldiers of the Bundeswehr today. Mayor Christian Gauf described this step as an important sign of support for the Bundeswehr and an investment in the future of the city. Loud Saarbrücken newspaper The new residents can look forward to around 100 square meters of living space, which offers a living room, three rooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a separate toilet.
The apartments are furnished and were necessary because the structural condition of some barracks accommodation is repeatedly criticized. But with this project, which was launched a year ago, Gewobau is pushing forward the first solutions. Whether it was Colonel Oliver Henkel, commander of the 26th Paratrooper Regiment, or the Gewobau bosses Jörg Eschmann and Michael Stichler - they all represented the hope for a significant improvement in living conditions and a strengthening of the sense of community among the soldiers when the keys were handed over. A sign of support
But the project will not end with these four apartments. Gewobau plans to further expand the initiative. More apartments are to be built to meet the needs of soldiers and to create short-term solutions to the critical conditions in the existing accommodation. It is clear that the city wants to maintain its commitment to the Bundeswehr. The first steps have been taken, but politicians and those responsible know that there is still a lot of work ahead of them.
With a modern and homely environment for the soldiers, Zweibrücken not only wants to contribute to a better standard of living, but also send a signal that the Bundeswehr is welcome here. “This is real progress,” says Jörg Eschmann, emphasizing that these apartments make a lasting contribution to the soldiers’ quality of life. Rhine Palatinate highlights that these new apartments are just the beginning. It remains to be seen what further measures will follow in the near future.
