Illegal tree robbery in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid: house in the park in danger!
In Neunkirchen-Seelscheid the heart of construction activity beats faster. The local landowner has a controversial plan in his pocket: the demolition of the house in the park on Zeithstrasse, which has been in ruins since the fire a few months ago. The goal? The construction of a modern apartment building. As the Review online Reportedly, the felling of several large trees caused a lot of conversation in the community.
The head of the Office for Community Development, Thomas Maffei, makes it clear that the illegal removal of trees is not without consequences. Anyone who falls healthy trees that have a trunk circumference of over 70 cm can expect a fine of up to 10,000 euros. Sick trees, on the other hand, may be removed without permission, while healthy trees may only be removed under specific conditions, for example if a construction project would otherwise be uneconomical.
Trees that have no future
The felling led to the view of the fire ruins, which previously housed a Mediterranean restaurant, being opened up. A dramatic incident occurred: the operators, two brothers from Tunisia, jumped out of the window during the fire. One of the brothers sustained serious injuries. The investigation into an attempted homicide is still not completed. Initially there were suspicions of a xenophobic act, which were later not confirmed.
The local initiative “Neunkirchen-Seelscheid is colorful” responded to this sad news by calling for a vigil. However, she announced that she was not planning any further actions for the time being in view of the ongoing investigation. The owner of the area, who invested in the property around ten years ago, announced that the insurance company has now paid for the damage from the fire and that he is now considering larger construction projects.
Construction activities in focus
The responsible building supervisory authority, the Rhein-Sieg district, will now deal with the building application. A sketch of the investor's ideas was presented at the town hall in August, but more recent plans are not yet known. What is interesting is that in the valid development plan the left half of the property is allocated a private green area and the right half is allocated a mixed area.
The ongoing discussions surrounding the construction project and the tree felling clearly show that the issue is very important in the community. Citizens have clear opinions and it will be exciting to see how the situation will develop further.
