Stones on tracks: Federal Police stops train ride at Gifhorn!

On Tuesday afternoon, there was a dramatic incident on the railway line between Isenbüttel and the Gifhorn train station, as strangers put several stones on the tracks. Shortly after 5 p.m., an ICE ran over the obstacles from Berlin to Hanover and had to initiate an emergency braking, which led to damage to the train's wheel tires. A helicopter from the federal police was in use to explore the situation while the railway line was closed for about two hours. Despite the shocking incident, the around 450 passengers were unharmed.

The emergency services discovered traces of over rolled stones and others on a side track that were removed. After the police measures were completed, the train was able to continue its trip to Hanover Central Station, but stopped there due to the damage to repairs. The federal police are now looking for witnesses who can provide information about the perpetrators or suspects, on 0511/30365-0.
