The 80th birthday will be a quiet party with a performance in Vienna
Madrid. Opera superstar Plácido Domingo celebrates his 80th birthday in a small group in Vienna for Korona this Thursday (January 21). He will spend the day with his wife Marta (86) and two of his three sons, Plácido Jr. (55) and Álvaro (52), the Spaniard announced in an interview with the German press agency. "I am very happy. It is a privilege to blow 80 candles on the cake," emphasized the "Maestro", who fell ill in March 2020, but has reappeared since the end of August.
According to Domingo, it will be a "calm and quiet" birthday party, "because the next day I will sing Nabucco (by Giuseppe Verdi) in the State Opera". Unfortunately, due to Corona and the associated restrictions, there will be no audience in the house. Domingo regretted that the Austrian broadcaster ORF records the performance and two days later, on Sunday evening at 8:15 p.m., on the Special Interest Canal ORF III.
"I am very pleased that I can sing (in Vienna). But I also regret that due to the travel restrictions, neither my oldest son Pepe (62) nor the rest of my Spanish and Mexican family can be with us," said the artist, who is considered one of the best opera singers ever.
Allegations of sexual harassment credible
not only the pandemic Domingo 2020. In the course of the metoo movement, women had accused women of sexual harassment. An investigation that was commissioned by Los Angeles Opera in March last year showed that certain allegations are credible for "inappropriate behavior".
An investigation by the US association of music artists (AGMA) in February 2020 also showed that Domingo had undertaken "inappropriate activities" from flirting to sexual progress. After the allegations, he resigned as head of Los Angeles Opera in October 2019.
