The water level in the Rhine continues to rise: No relaxation in sight
Cologne. With the Rhine flood in Cologne, there is a slight deterioration again. On Saturday morning the water level fell slightly to 8.58 meters. For Sunday and Monday, however, the waterway and shipping management calculated with an increasing water level. The preliminary high could therefore be reached at just under 8.80 meters on Monday morning - the models do not go on.
Promenades and Stege flooded for days
shipping traffic on the Rhine in Cologne was discontinued on Thursday because of the flood. Only when the water level is less than 8.30 meters should the ships pass the section again. In other NRW cities, shipping is only affected at significantly higher water levels.
The promenades and bridges have been flooded for days, and the water has also flowed into residential areas near the river. It is not really so dramatic yet, but different protective measures work. For example, pedestrian bridges were built in the village of Kasselberg. It only becomes dangerous for downtown Cologne at significantly higher water levels of 11.30 meters.
