30.08.2024 - 09:12

University of Osnabrück

The University of Osnabrück will become the stage for an important international conference from September 4 to 6, 2024, which deals with the cognitive processes of language processing. In the event under the title "What happens in the head when we talk to each other?" recognized researchers from different countries will come together to explore the complex relationship between language and cognition.

Around 150 cognitive linguistics experts are expected to discuss topics from grammatical analyzes to modern applications in artificial intelligence such as chatt. "This conference offers a valuable space for basic research, which is not only important for linguistics, but also addresses social issues," explains Prof. Dr. Alexander Bergs, who organizes the conference and works as a linguist at the Institute for English and American Studies.

A central topic will be cognitive linguistics, which assumes that language skills are closer with general cognitive functions instead of forming an isolated system. In recent years, this research area has developed strongly and contributes to solving social problems.

"The choice of Osnabrück location for this international conference is a sign of the growing importance of our university in the global research community," says Prof. Dr. Christian Schneider, Vice Dean of the Department of Language and Literary Science. "It is a strong indication of the high -quality research achievements that are provided here. The conference of the German Society for Cognitive Linguistics enjoys both nationally and internationally high recognition and could also draw attention to the development in Osnabrück."

The event is created by the challenges against which cognitive linguistics faces, numerous food for thought and knowledge. "We approach our questions in terms of results," emphasizes Bergs. This openness is crucial for progress in an area that develops dynamically and also gains relevance in times of modern technologies.

external guests still have the opportunity to register in order not only to pursue lectures, but also to participate in the discussions that could significantly influence the research landscape in the humanities. Interested parties can register at the email address dgkl2024@uos.de.
