Over 30 IT and Open Data enthusiasts followed the call of the Statistics and Elections Office and had dealt with digital solutions for the city of Leipzig in a total of nine teams. A specialist jury consisting of members of the city administration, Lecos GmbH as well as the research and transfer institutes Scads.ai and Infai had awarded the placements.
in the category "Open topic" won the company PD-G. The team presented an innovative approach to determining traffic -calmed residential quarters, which are also known as super blocks. The principle of the super blocks comes from Barcelona and is currently being tested in Leipzig for the Volkmarsdorf district. The PD-G team was able to show with its process that further super blocks can be identified efficiently. This data enables sustainable and climate -like traffic planning.
In the category "Ki for urban development" , two projects shared the podium: a prize went to the Mira analysis tool developed by Eric Schöbel, which evaluates and visualized urban data with intelligent procedures. The company also received an award. The company's employees carried out imaginative studies to improve efficiency in urban traffic. Through the combination of freely available data records and its own data survey, the team gained interesting findings in the areas of electromobility, choice of transport and avoidance.
The category "Open-data portal" won Leander Seige. It has developed an operational interface for image files in the city archive that could be used in the future at digital exhibitions of Leipzig cultural institutions.
per topic there is a bonus of 700 euros (1st place), 500 euros (2nd place) and 250 euros (3rd place) for the respective winning teams. The award was ahead of a project phase several months, in which the innovative power of open data for urban development was tested. Under the motto "Freeing data", students, companies and developers worked on their own projects to cope with urban challenges.
Important impulses for the city administration
The projects of the Leipzig Open Data Hackathon 2023 offer important impulses for future IT applications of the city administration. The hackathon is a word creation from "hack" (technical trick) and "marathon": In addition to important technologies, original solutions for typical challenges from the municipal context were presented. All teams have shown that with the help of freely accessible information, creative applications and decision -relevant data treasures can be developed. So that the software tools and data collections created can also be used for other municipalities, they are made available promptly under an open source license.
