Seven-day incidence at 107 per 100,000 inhabitants

The number of average daily new infections in Austria has recently stagnated despite closures. 1317 new infections were reported on Sunday. The so -called seven -day incidence was 107 per 100,000 inhabitants. The German value was 75.6.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz mentioned in January that there would only be 600 to 700 new infections a day in January-an incidence of around 50. These values were never achieved. Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober hoped that a further block would not be necessary. "But nobody in this world can rule that out," he told the "Kronen Zeitung" on Sunday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 8,000 people have died in Austria with its almost nine million inhabitants or with Covid-19.

The border controls with Germany are tightened

Austria was concerned about the further spread of the corona virus and announced that the border controls with Germany and other neighboring countries massively tighten from Monday. This should prevent all unnecessary triggering in pandemic. "The border controls serve as a wave breaker for infection chains that are becoming increasingly dangerous due to new virus mutations," said Interior Minister Karl Nehammer.

In the future, every traveler will have to present a negative coronate test when crossing the border. There are no more exceptions. A ten -day quarantine should also be observed. Like other travelers, commuters now have to register online and show a negative coronate test once a week. In order to prevent possible border crossings from tourists, the authorities also announced increased controls in ski areas.
