tapirdame now lives alone

Sad news from the Leipzig Zoo: After several young animals have died, the zoo now gives up the tapir breeding with the Sming Tapir lady Laila. The 14 -year -old cow must therefore now live alone on the facility. How the tapires in Leipzig will continue is still unclear.

No other offspring for Laila

LAILA, the saddlebarfapir lady in the Leipzig Zoo, will not get any further offspring. Unfortunately, her youngest baby also died, probably because of a germ. This is a big loss for Laila, who has previously successfully raised babies three times. Unfortunately, their last five prolongs have all stayed without survivors.

Tapir breeding in Leipzig uncertain

With the waiver of tapir breeding with Laila, the future of the tapir in the Leipzig zoo is uncertain. It is still unclear how it will go on and whether the zoo will add new saddlebap tapir to breeding. Tapire are endangered animals and their preservation and breeding is important to secure the population.

It remains to be hoped that there will be successful breeding success in the future and that the tapire in the Leipzig zoo can continue to play a role in species protection. The loss of the last young animal and the decision to no longer use Laila for breeding are certainly regrettable, but also a necessary measure to protect the animals.
