Verdi calls for 36-hour warning strike in Leipzig: restrictions at universities and university clinics

Leipzig. Verdi is calling for the next warning strike: on Thursday from 6 a.m., employees of several universities and at the university clinic are to go into the industrial action for 36 hours, the union announced on Wednesday.

In the university area, the strikes of Leipzig facilities include the HTWK, the university, the science and working world, the Studentenwerk, the Academy of Sciences as well as the universities for graphics and book art, for music and theater and the Leibniz Institute.

also restrictions in the state directorate

The student employees of the university are called up for the so -called participation strike. This is directed against an outsider employer and is characterized by the fact that he does not belong to any employers' association, but is still not a third party that is uninvolved on the association.

"In addition, a large number of institutions from the state directorate will only be reached to a limited extent on this day," says Sebastian Viecenz, district manager in Leipzig. Only a few active people are expected for Thursday, according to Viecenz on LVZ demand. Therefore, it can be assumed that the canteen is open. Friday, in turn, looks different, "we assume closed facilities". That was already the case with the strike on November 14th.

emergency service agreement at the clinic required

A focus is on the university clinic. "We have been calling for long discussions about an emergency service agreement, but there were no signals even after the strike on November 14th," said Viecenz. Julia Greger, union secretary for the Leipzig University Hospital, points out that "many areas are already working at an emergency service level. We are still ready to conclude such an agreement in the interest of the patient".

In response to the announcement of another strike, Verdi is now invited by the clinic's chef days-at 6 a.m. in the morning. "That could have had the line much earlier," criticizes Viencenz, "but of course we won't be repellent." The usual processes and planning at the clinic are disturbed by Friday, "but of course no patient is left in the corridor, the basic care is of course guaranteed."

rally and workshops

The strikes gather on Thursday from 6 a.m. in Liebigstrasse at the Park Camer Pond. A demo for the Kohlrabizkirkus begins around 8 a.m., after the rally in front of the Kohlrabizkirkus will take place in the Halle workshops. Around 1 p.m. the strikers meet again at the university clinic.

"The willingness of the employees to stand up for their demands and to put down the work continues to grow. Nothing will change until the next negotiation date," says district manager Leipzig-Nordsachsen.
