VNG AG is investing a record amount in hydrogen kernel network: pioneering infrastructure project for Central Germany
The creation of a future -oriented hydrogen infrastructure in Central Germany
VNG AG has made an important decision to build the hydrogen infrastructure in Central Germany. This investment, which is seen as the greatest individual investment in the history of the company, is realized through the subsidiary Ontras Gastbansport GmbH. The investment amount is in the medium three-digit million range and is a milestone for the implementation of the future hydrogen kernel network.
The planned hydrogen infrastructure extends over around 600 km in Central Germany and combines important industrial centers and chemiere areas. Efficient supply is guaranteed by the changeover of existing natural gas lines to hydrogen and the new construction of cables. This project creates a connection between different regions, including the Leipzig area, the Central German chemical triangle, industrial centers in Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony, the Berlin area and the MEISEN.
The decision to invest in the hydrogen kernel network is part of VNG's long-term strategy, which is aimed at developing the infrastructure for green gases. The implementation of this project will make a significant contribution to the decarbonization of industry and society and increase energy efficiency in Germany. In addition, Ulf Heitmüller, CEO of VNG AG, emphasizes the importance of this project for the future viability of Germany.
The approval of the core network application is carried out by the Federal Network Agency in the further procedure in order to ensure gradual and needs-based expansion of the network. This investment of VNG and Ontras will help to strengthen Central and East Germany economically and to promote change towards a sustainable energy industry. By creating a powerful hydrogen infrastructure, important impulses for regional development are set.
The decision of VNG to invest in the hydrogen kernel network is not only a milestone in the company's history, but also a clear signal for the future-oriented focus on green energy sources. With this project, VNG sets a sign of sustainable structural change and paves the way for a CO2-neutral future.
