Citizens' ideas asked: Leipzig starts city square program 2030+
Leipzig plans to redesign 22 city places as well as several garden and village places as part of the 2030+ city square program. The aim is to make the places greenerer and make it more attractive to linger. In this process, the ideas and suggestions of the citizens are in demand in order to plan the design of the places according to the needs of the local community. It starts on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, with the redesign project of the Plagwitzer Rathausplatz, followed by the square at Rabet in Neustadt-Neuschönefeld, Südplatz, the Eutritz Mark and finally the square at the Mockauer Post.
by the end of 2025, partial conversions should be realized for the first four places mentioned to enable short-term improvements such as trees, benches, plant beds and sports or play equipment. The square at Mockauer Post is to be completely rebuilt from 2027. The specific design of the places will depend on both urban planning requirements as well as on the proposals and wishes of the Leipzigers.
Citizen participation is an important part of the city square program. Events for citizen participation will take place in various locations in Leipzig in May. Employees of the city of Leipzig are available to talk to the citizens about their ideas and wishes about the places. In addition, an online participation is planned to give those who cannot personally participate in the events to give their ideas.
