Leipzig organizes the opening event for the nationwide day of the open monument 2022 - City of Leipzig
"We look forward to Leipzig - a prospering metropolis with a great innovation spirit, in which the interaction of structural history and future -oriented developments provides exciting insights," said Dr. Steffen Skdelty from DSD at the first preparatory meeting.
This year's motto of the campaign day is "Culture Spur. A case for monument protection". It looks at historical scars, additions and further developments. Leipzig offers numerous starting points for the motto and takes up these perspectives: Monuments of the (eastern) modernity, the Weimar Republic and the Wilhelminian era should be the focus of the program as a host city.
Leipzig presents itself as a metropolis of modernity
in the application Leipzig had already presented itself as the “big city of modernity”. "Leipzig has not only made a name for itself in specialist circles as a successfully renovated city monument. An urban planning monument that has a tough thing: The venerable town hall meets Henselmann's university giants, the bourgeois Gohlis meets the workers' district in the east, the Johannapark on allotment gardens, unanimized factory halls meets the successful renovation of the cotton spinning," says Mayor Burkhard Jung: "As a host city, we would like to present this fullness and an attractive program to the nationwide audience."
