Expect trees in the Helmholtz School - City of Leipzig

With the help of the database of all meter readings of the project " Half half " The students of class 8b calculated the energy consumption of their secondary school in Lindenau. The data for electricity, heat and water consumption in the school year 2018/2019 were used.

They came to a remarkable result: the Helmholtz School produced around 133 tons of CO2 in the last school year. Since each tree can save around 20 kilograms of CO2, at least 6,500 trees should be planted. This corresponds to an area of around 16 soccer fields.

Since it is unrealistic to plant so many new trees, the class discusses alternative opportunities to consume less energy at school: ventilate properly, mark the light switch, avoid standby mode for electrical devices. These are simple tips for saving energy that all students can use.
