Gunter Böhnke was born in Dresden as the son of an East Prussian and a Dresden woman. Although his parents wanted him to speak High German, he got used to the Saxon dialect over time. This was mainly due to the fact that he wanted to belong to school. Gunter Böhnke also dominated the High German language. He is not only known as a cabaret artist, but has also made a name for himself as a translator. In addition to his work on stage, he also wrote books. Originally he had planned to study acting, but then decided to study in Leipzig from 1963.
The beginnings in the "Academixer" cabaret
During his studies in Leipzig, Gunter Böhnke came into contact with the teacher student Jürgen Hart, who later headed the "Academixer" cabaret. Hart invited Böhnke to join the cabaret, which he liked to accept. Initially, Böhnke still appeared as a student cabaret artist because he strived for the teaching position. Later, however, he decided on his career as a translator. The work as a cabaret artist demanded a lot of time and energy. Initially, the cabaret had about seven appearances a month, but over time the number was increased due to short appearances. After all, Böhnke had to see that this high load was too much for him. He temporarily worked on the publisher for half a day before being employed as a cabaret artist in 1979.success with the Academixers
The Academixers were particularly popular with young people. Her Saxon dialect made her practically folk ownership. It was mainly Manfred Stephan who taught how to deal with the dialect to the colleague from the Leipzig pepper mill. Gunter Böhnke was particularly talented as a street man in dealing with the dialect. If the texts also fulfilled the principle of "light, Heiflich and Heemdiggsch", large cabaret moments were created. With the performance of the poems by dialect poem Lene Voigt in 1980, the Academixers set a milestone in the East German cabaret. This marked the beginning of an era of Saxon programs that continues to this day. The subversive type of Saxon dialect, which immediately destroys every pathos, was particularly suitable for the cabaret - and particularly well for Gunter Böhnke.
The successful duo Böhnke/Lange
In the political programs of the Academixers over the past decades of the GDR, Gunter Böhnke and Bernd-Lutz have long been a well-coordinated team. Despite their clear differences, they complemented not only on stage, but also human. It was therefore obvious that they formed the duo Böhnke/Lange from 1988. Her first joint program was entitled "I am starting" and acted by Leipzig, Saxony and the GDR. This new format was presented in the Academixer cellar and paved the way for the coming time in United Germany. Gunter Böhnke has now experienced the most successful phase of his career. In addition to his work as a translator and writer, the programs with Bernd-Lutz were very well received by Bernd-Lutz for a long time. They were even hired for the "reference" after the daily topics in the ARD and received the program "People exist" at the MDR. After 15 years, the duo ended his collaboration, but Gunter Böhnke remained present on stage. He has worked hard over the years and has now harvested the results.
