construction work in Landsberger Straße: One step into the future

The comprehensive renewal of Landsberger Straße in Leipzig-Gohlis has been completed. From April 25, 2025, cars and trams can drive through this central traffic artery again, which will have a significant impact on city traffic.

The construction project on Landsberger Straße is not just a simple renovation, it represents a significant progress in the transport infrastructure in Leipzig. After 14 months, the road will now be opened again for car traffic, which is officially celebrated on April 25, 2025. A day later, tram line 4 returns to its regular route and thus improves the connection for commuters and residents.

Overall, an area of 1,840 meters between Coppiplatz and Hans-Oster-Straße was extensively renovated. In addition to widening the track spacing and the renewal of the track systems, important infrastructure measures were also taken. The Leipzig waterworks played a central role by renewing old drinking water and wastewater pipes from 1895. This not only increases security of supply, but also protects the environment.

An important goal of the renovation was to improve security for pedestrians and cyclists. Sidewalk noses and new cycling strips significantly increase the safety of intersections and junctions. This step is part of a larger plan to complete the cycle path network in Leipzig and promote environmentally friendly mobility in the city.

The construction work also led to planting 27 new trees, which not only ensure better air quality, but also upgrade the cityscape. The renewal of the lighting on modern LED technology is another positive aspect that not only reduces energy costs, but also reduces CO2 emissions.

The project presents itself in numbers as follows:

  • 1,840 meters of track were renewed
  • 330 meters of lawn track added
  • 6,800 meters DC cable laid
  • 22 new track masts set up
  • 12,300 square meters of asphalt installed
  • 1,200 meters of drinking water pipes renovated

The extensive cooperation between the city of Leipzig, the Leipzig transport businesses and the waterworks shows the commitment of the authorities for modern and sustainable urban development. The reopening of Landsberger Straße is not only a symbol of return to a normal city life after the construction work, but also an important step for the future of mobility in Leipzig.
