Refugee crisis in MV: Government must finally explain!

Refugee crisis in MV: Government must finally explain!
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (MV), the refugee situation is increasingly becoming the point of dispute between the political opposition and the state government. Enrico Komning, Member of the Bundestag of the AfD from Neubrandenburg, has sharply criticized the federal government. He calls for comprehensive information on the refugee situation, in particular with regard to the countries of origin, the punishment of migrants and the number of young, male refugees. According to his words, the government is hiding behind a "bird-bouquet tactics" and inadequate information, which the population in MV does not protect before foreign crime, according to his accusation to those responsible. This problem was also taken up by the CDU MP Ann Christin von Allwörden, who denounces the lack of transparency of the state government.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior emphasizes that the countries are responsible for the refugee situation and refers to the "federal laying image crime in the context of immigration". In MV, 11,468 men up to 40 years with recognized asylum or refugee protection are registered in MV on December 31, 2024. Komning also calls for a detailed overview of the refugee accommodation in MV to ensure government security. The numbers in the different counties are distributed differently. Here too, a central challenge in the transparency and control of the asylum seeker flows is seen.
refugee accommodation and integration
The CDU MP from Allwörden insists on complete statistics to compil the asylum seekers in the initial reception facilities (EAE) in MV. These are located, for example, in Nostorf-Horst, where 38 Turks were housed on December 31, 2024, and in Stern Buchholz with 177 Syrians. The capacity of the EAE is to be doubled by the end of 2025 - from 1,200 to 2,400 places. This is seen as a sign of the inadequate control of the asylum process. Although the refugee accommodation is officially considered to be largely smooth, the numbers of the entrances show a pressing problem: 4,788 asylum seekers were registered in 2024, and there are also 3,938 Ukrainian warfare.
The influx of refugees requires enormous personnel and financial resources, which presents the municipalities with considerable challenges. The Ministry of the Interior of MV reports an average stock of 1,376 in the Mecklenburg Lake District and only 210 in Schwerin. In addition, in the shared accommodation, such as in Dabel (540 seats) and Upahl (250 places), it is found that they are not fully utilized.
public protests and challenges
in Westmecklenburg, where 3,698 new asylum seekers were registered by September 2024 (a decline of 11% compared to the previous year), there are increasingly civil protests and debates on refugee accommodation. The distribution of asylum seekers shows that the district of Northwest Mecklenburg houses 312 people, while Ludwigslust-Parchim takes 285 people and Schwerin 121 people. The integration of the refugees is highlighted as the central task of the municipalities, here educational offers and language courses are of great importance.
The discussion about refugee accommodation is not only shaped by numbers and facts, but also by topics such as crime. There were several incidents in the shared accommodation that stir up public fears. In Upahl, the police recorded 15 missions in 2024, mainly caused by internal conflicts. Nevertheless, there are also positive voices that emphasize the importance of integration for social cohesion and diversity.
The financial resources for accommodation and integration are borne by both by the federal government and the country. In 2022, MV spent around 70 million euros for accommodations and social benefits. The federal invested funds in the federal government vary between 21 and 27 billion euros, which impose costs of around 250 to 300 euros per year in Germany. According to numerous civil protests, clear communication and transparency are missing, which also reinforces the challenges in the field of refugee policy.
