Major renovation: Hohenlockstedt closes main street until 2026!
From Monday, November 3rd, 2025, Kieler Straße in Hohenlockstedt in the Steinburg district will become a construction site. The Schleswig-Holstein State Office for Road Construction and Transport (LBV.SH) announced this in a recent announcement. The thoroughfare will be closed to allow extensive renovation work. The measures will be carried out in a total of 14 carefully planned construction phases, with the first section between the water tower and the gas station on Hebbelstrasse expected to be closed until mid-December.
While this work is taking place, the Hohenlockstedt municipal administration will carry out additional construction work on sewerage. Traffic will be rerouted via the B203 and Herman-Löhns-Straße in order to minimize disruption to residents.
Long-term infrastructure investments
The road construction work in Hohenlockstedt is part of a larger project that is intended to significantly improve the infrastructure in Schleswig-Holstein by 2025. Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen recently announced that around 470 million euros will be invested in the expansion and maintenance of the roads by late autumn. In particular, the federal Autobahn GmbH focuses on urgent renovations of bridges and the A 1 and A 23 motorways.
LBV.SH plans to invest around 250 million euros in 140 projects, which will exceed investments by 25 million euros compared to the previous year. However, the final planning depends on the budget decision of the new federal government, which is still pending. Minister Madsen appealed to the public to show patience and consideration during the construction work.
Conclusion and outlook
The renovation of Kieler Straße in Hohenlockstedt is therefore not only necessary, but also part of a comprehensive plan to improve the transport infrastructure throughout the state. Residents can expect some challenges until all sections are completed, which is targeted for October 2026. But the long-term benefits to traffic quality and safety will certainly outweigh the temporary inconveniences.
