Art with a message: New exhibition in Kiel to protect the seas

The art scene in Kiel is getting ready for an exciting event: On Friday, November 7th, 2025, the exhibition “Origin.Kiel – Origin-Present-Future” will open under the direction of the Kiel artist and sculptor Marcus Meyer. The event will take place in the foyer of the Hotel ATLANTIC, Raiffeisenstraße 2, 24103 Kiel, and begins at 12:30 p.m. with a welcome by Uwe Wanger, the managing director of Kiel-Marketing.

But what can we expect from this exhibition? It addresses marine protection and the survival of endangered animal species and thus brings a hot topic to the art canvas. In collaboration with the state capital Kiel, the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel and Kiel Marketing, a variety of unique wooden objects have been created that are distributed throughout the cityscape of Kiel. It's more than just an exhibition; it is a call to raise awareness for nature conservation.

Artistic impulses for environmental protection

Marcus Meyer will not only present his works at the opening, but will also offer a half-hour tour of Kiel city center to introduce selected exhibition objects in more detail. As is well known, art has the ability to convey messages without the need for big words - a fact that is receiving worldwide recognition as part of climate art projects such as “#art4climate”. These projects deal intensively with the challenges of climate change and contribute to promoting environmental protection, as berlin-recycling.de notes.

The diversity of art is also reflected by the medieval word “art”, which means “knowledge” and “skill”. This reference alone shows how deeply rooted the connection between art and craft is in our culture. Historically, the word existed in many variations in various ancient Germanic languages, which underlines the universal relevance of art in human civilization - an idea that we would also like to take up in this exhibition, as wiktionary.org describes.

After the speeches and the presentation of the works of art, the exhibition celebration will be rounded off with snacks and drinks from the Hotel ATLANTIC. This is not only an opportunity to end the evening in a friendly atmosphere, but also an opportunity for exchange and further discussions about the fascinating topics that the exhibits raise.

Overall, we have to say that “Origin.Kiel” is much more than a simple art exhibition. It is a creative process that raises questions, stimulates thought and, above all, promotes dialogue about the important protection of our nature. A visit is definitely worth it – let yourself be inspired!
