Chaos on Köllner Chaussee: Residents demand immediate renovation!

In Kölln-Reisiek, the patience of the residents is slowly running out. Citizens have been waiting for the promised repair of Köllner Chaussee since 2023. According to shz.de the condition of the road is catastrophic. There are noticeable cracks in the surface course and the asphalt surface is peeling in several places. Citizens report loud heavy traffic, which not only strains their nerves but also causes damage to neighboring residential buildings.

Those responsible in the Pinneberg district recognize the grievances, but despite the open commitment, the work is still pending. All resources are currently tied up in other projects, including urgent bridge repairs and various road renovation measures. The Köllner Chaussee is therefore not on the priority list for the time being, which is met with great incomprehension by the residents.

Urgent need for action

The situation is made particularly urgent by the dangers posed by the dilapidated manhole covers. Last year, the renovation of the sewerage system on Köllner Chaussee was deemed necessary in order to eliminate further danger areas. The municipality is now explicitly demanding money for renovation and a clear timetable in the next district budget. In addition, the aim is to immediately replace the surface layer and introduce a 30 km/h zone along the busy road.

Other roads in the district, such as the K6 between Hasloh and Tangstedt and the K12 between Bullenkuhlen and Pinneberger Landesstraße, are also on the list for renovation. The latter even has priority - a circumstance that could further dampen hopes of an early solution for Köllner Chaussee. Wittenberger Straße will be closed for four weeks from November 3rd in order to carry out necessary repairs.

Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030

To understand the background to why such road projects are stalling, it is worth taking a look at the Bundesverkehrswegeplan 2030. This plan is the central instrument of the federal government's transport infrastructure planning, in which the priorities for infrastructure projects for the next 10 to 15 years are set. With a total volume of around 269.6 billion euros, the plan focuses not only on new construction, but also on maintaining the existing networks.

While residents in Kölln-Reisiek wait for the renovation, it is becoming apparent that simply refreshing Köllner Chaussee will not be enough. The substructure does not meet technical standards and it is expected that the road could play a role as a potential diversion route during the thorough renovation of the K12.

Communication between decision-makers and citizens must improve in order not to further disappoint hopes for a timely and satisfactory solution. The next period could be crucial for the residents of Kölln-Reisiek - the pressure is growing and patience is dwindling.
