On Monday afternoon, a serious traffic accident occurred in downtown Rostock, in which a twelve -year -old boy was seriously injured. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. when the boy fell from the platform to Langen Straße for an unknown cause and got under an incoming tram. According to Nordkurier the child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Already at 4:20 p.m. the boy wanted to cross the tracks to reach the opposite track and overlooked the incoming tram. The driver initiated an emergency braking, but could no longer prevent the collision. The boy's leg was caught between the train and the curb, which caused an extensive rescue operation. Rescue workers needed about 45 minutes to be recovered because the fire brigade had to raise the tram with a hydraulic device. The Tag24 reported on a large contingent of the fire brigade that was on site, while the long street between the green gate and the new market was completely closed.

During the rescue work, the police were faced with a variety of onlookers who headed for the scene of the accident. In order not to hinder the emergency services, privacy protection was set up.
