Sky puts the turbo in: Bundesliga rights secure the jackpot!

In an exciting turn on the Pay TV market, Sky secured the majority of the transfer rights for the Bundesliga. This was done as part of a tender that was completed on December 7, 2024. CEO Barny Mills already signals that today's winner could possibly celebrate significant success tomorrow, since Sky now sees himself in a strong position, especially with a view to the upcoming negotiations on other rights.

new dynamics at Warner/HBO

The once uncertain future of Sky seems to be able to stabilize. The contract with Warner/HBO expires in 2025, and there was already signs that the partnership would not be extended, while Warner plans to offer content on his own streaming platform HBO Max. However, according to an interview with the media magazine "DWDL", Barny Mills is optimistic by emphasizing that the long -term partnership was useful for both sides and that one is in constructive conversations for a possible extension. The explanation of Mills that "we still have a little time for these negotiations" could indicate a return to the stability of the company, while the pressure on the contract extension is growing.

In an entrepreneurial change, Sky also appointed Barny Mills as the new CEO of Sky Germany to replace Devesh Raj, who is moving to Great Britain. Mills, who had already worked for Sky for 14 years and most recently acted as CFO, has extensive knowledge of the company and its business in Germany. Dana Strong, CEO from Sky Group, describes Mills as someone with an excellent business sense and a proven track record in improving corporate performance. These changes could significantly influence the further course of Sky, especially with regard to the upcoming right of rights for the Champions League in 2025.
