Sports editor in Syke: A day full of emotions and teamwork!

Syke, Deutschland - On May 15, 2025, the first Ippen.media day of local journalism took place, which focused on the essential role of local journalism for society and democracy. The event was accompanied by the lively reporting of the sports editorial team of the Mediengruppe Kreiszeitung in Syke, which was in use until 11 p.m. on Sunday.

The editors were euphoric from the emotions of the participants after the 5th Syker Hachelauf and included a wide range of topics in their reporting. Rouven Peter moderated a video post in front of the service mobile phone camera, while department head Ingo Trümpler and Daniel Wiechert worked on four national coat sports pages. These pages covered important sporting events, including the Bundesliga, the HSV promotion, a handball international match and the ice hockey World Cup.

local success in focus

The master party of the district league soccer players of TV Stuhr was at the center of reporting. Cord Krüger had already prepared four local sports pages, whereby the focus was on the upmaker, photos and an Instagram video that held celebrating with jubilation and beer showers in bright weather. Jan Könemann also reported on the master celebration of TSV Wetschen and ensured that the celebrations were ultimately fully documented.

In the evening hours, the "Crunchime" began in the editorial team with the Bundesliga evening game. Julian Diekmann had talks with coaches for the "telephone game reports", while the email inbox filled with articles from freelancers. After the print articles were written, the editors planned post-turn stories and the player of the week, in order to be digitally and through social media.

challenges and success

Local journalism, however, is under pressure, as was also clear in the Ippen.media day. In many communities, editorial offices are struggling with falling income and increasing expenses. Despite these challenges, local reporting remains of central importance for democracy, since it ensures transparency and accountability in the administration and combines the local community by providing reporting on environmental protection, education policy and social justice that can have great effects.

Local editorial offices such as those in Syke are therefore not only the entertainer, but also as a guardian of the community and their values. So that the citizens can influence the reporting, a reader survey on the importance of local journalism was part of the Ippen.media tag.

In the sports editorial team, the editors were Groggy after a long Sunday, which reflects the effort and teamwork. Gerd Töbelmann treated himself to a pizza to the reward before ringing the end of the day around 10 p.m., while late services can even last until midnight on other days of the week.

The digital range of ickpen.media also shows how important local journalism is. With over 80 brands and a monthly range of 300 million visits, the network reaches about half of all Germans. This underlines the need to tell local stories and actively encourage citizens to support local journalism.

The reporting of the sports editorial team in Syke and the broad context of the Ippen.media day offer an insightful insight into the importance and challenges of local journalism in Germany. While the editors have read the last texts, the task of local journalism remains clear: the strengthening of the community and the commitment to a democratic society.
