Vorfteich Karolinenhof is revealed ecologically - renovation begins soon!

Karolinenhof, Berlin, Deutschland - The district office Treptow-Köpenick is planning a comprehensive ecological upgrading of the Karolinenhof village pond for 2025, which is scheduled to begin in the first quarter. The initiative aims to maintain and restore the pond as a valuable and ecologically intact water. This small pond, which is surrounded by residential buildings and a playground, is currently being considered urgently in need of renovation. Among other things, the measures will include a significant reduction in the organic sludge of the body of water, since the sediment examinations have determined that the sludge power in the middle range is 0.88 m and a maximum of 1.45 m. These values illustrate the need for action for the restoration of water quality.

The responsible environmental and nature conservation office will be responsible for the project. This includes the use of an environmentally friendly ventilation system called Drausy® Professional. This system is supplied with oxygen on the water for at least five years in order to promote the breakdown of organic material. For this purpose, a compressor is used, which distributes the ambient air evenly in order to ensure comprehensive ventilation. This innovative method is intended to stimulate the aerobic bacteria that are responsible for reducing mud thickness, and at the same time improve the quality of life in the water. Berliner Woche reports that in particular the habitat quality for different ways of life will be in the foreground.

The planning and implementation of the project faces some challenges, including the high planning effort and the requirements for the protection of birds and amphibians in the region. Environmental Councilor Dr. Claudia Leistner (Bündnis 90/Greens) has emphasized that the exact time frame for the implementation of the renovation measures is difficult to estimate due to the complexity and the natural protection law issues. However, the construction work itself is designed for a period of one to two months. The costs for the entire measure are temporarily estimated at around 1.5 to 1.7 million euros, whereby a more precise calculation should be carried out in the course of the planning.

This comprehensive measures expected that the Karolinenhof village pond will not only be upgraded ecologically, but also enables a long -term improvement in water quality and biodiversity. The residents and visitors to the region can look forward to a revitalized water area that promotes the habitat of numerous animal and plant species and at the same time represents an attractive local recreation area.
