Peat barge season in Osterholz-Scharmbeck: Neuer Kahn Mourdeern baptizes the fleet!

The anticipation for the new peat barge in Osterholz-Scharmbeck is great, because this year's travel season begins on May 1st. A highlight is the newcomer in the fleet of the peat chicken ship, the new peat barge called Mourdeern, which replaces the decommissioned moor witch. The official baptism of the Mourders recently took place in the Easter -Holz port in spring -like weather and numerous spectators. Hans Ulrich Mohr, the chairman of the association "Torfkahnschiffer Osterholz-Scharmbeck e.V.", was among the guests and was happy about the new access.

The peat barge organized by this association have a long tradition in the region. The barges themselves are historical and made of oak wood, with characteristic brown sails. They offer passengers a unique experience through the waterways of the Teufelsmoor, a landscape that was the only means of transport in the region from 18 to 20 centuries. Thanks to the support of the Anzeiger Verlag, bookings can be accepted, which facilitates the organization of the trips.
