A new phase of life: Georg's exciting school start in Northern Wohlde

In the small community of Northern Wohlde, an important phase of life for six -year -old Georg Pufal begins. The blind boy will be schooled on Saturday, August 10, 2024. However, the challenges associated with his disability throw a shadow on this joyful occasion.

a new way of life for Georg

Georg sees schooling as an exciting step into a new world. He proudly holds his blind stock, the school bag and the knob in his hand. For his family, including the parents Heinrich and Sonja Pufal, a challenging chapter begins with schooling. "Preparations alone were enormous effort," explains Heinrich Pufal. The family had to fill out a number of applications and cope with numerous authorities, which led to great administrative effort.

hurdles on the way to school

Although Georg has been able to cope well in kindergarten in the Bassum Gospel community, the transition to primary school is difficult. "We have an entire folder full of documents, only for schooling," reports Heinrich Pufal. For Georg, who was born without optic nerve, it was important to find a suitable school nearby. The closest special primary schools for visually impaired children in Hanover and Osnabrück were not practical for the family. The Georg Droste School in Bremen turned out to be another option, but the assumption of costs was complicated.

Community commitment and support

Finally, the family found a suitable solution with the primary school in Northwohlde. Georg can be integrated here and the headmistress Lena Hübner is extremely committed. It enabled Georg to familiarize herself with his blind stick at school before schooling. The contact with his class teacher also strengthens Georg, who says about the visit: "He is nice."

accompaniment by school assistance

Everyday school life begins for Georg from Monday. Like every prospective ABC shooter, he has already received his school material, which also includes a laptop with a braille attachment. To support him on the way to school, Georg is accompanied by school assistance. This certainly brings him to the pedestrian light that has not yet been naked with the blind to the elementary school, which is about a kilometer away. According to Heinrich Pufal, this is a cheaper alternative to a driving service.

joie de vivre and future wishes

Despite the challenges, Georg shows a remarkable joie de vivre. "I'm not afraid," he emphasizes. His father proudly shows: "It felt good that he takes this step. The most important thing is that he is mentally healthy and can take part in life." Georg also has clear goals of life. "I want to become a doctor," he describes his wishes, which causes his father's smile: "He should become a judge, because he can make judgments without having to look at the person."

This story of Georg Pufal shows not only his personal challenges, but also the importance of community and support in an inclusive society. While the little boy can prepare for his new phase of life, it is clear that he is not alone. The committed support of parents, teachers and the community makes it clear how important it is to reduce barriers and give every child a chance.
