Emsland and Diepholz: Alarming numbers with homelessness!
The district of Emsland occupies one of the front places in Lower Saxony when it comes to accommodation homeless people. According to the State Office for Statistics, a total of 2,500 homeless people were housed in emergency sleeping points or other facilities at the end of January 2024. With this, Emsland is in third place nationwide, just behind the district of Diepholz with 2,000 people housed. A total of around 33,000 people were temporarily accommodated in Lower Saxony at that time, with almost half of this group being younger than 25 years old and a third dates from Ukraine.
