Northern Germany: Dithmarschen urgently needs more living space for new jobs
growing demand for living space
The Dithmarschen region faces an increased demand for living space because the Swedish company is planning to build a new battery factory in Heide. This project, which is expected to create 3000 jobs, also has far -reaching effects on the local real estate industry. There is a risk that people with medium and low incomes will have difficulty finding suitable living space in the near future.
Public support is required
Representatives of the apartment associations, in particular Axel Gedaschko from the GDW and Andreas Breitner from the VNW, have again emphasized in this context how important it is that the federal and state governments support the municipalities. This support could be made in the form of financial resources or through pragmatic solutions to promote the construction of affordable living space in the region.
Risk of displacement
Breitner warns of the displacement of weaker population groups if the new employees of the battery factory are looking for living space. "Only sufficient new construction helps," said his urgent message. In the course of this development, the state should set up special funding for the construction of affordable apartments in the Dithmarschen district in order to meet the needs of citizens.
The role of politics
The politicians in Kiel, Berlin and Brussels are required to recognize the dimension of the challenge in housing construction and act accordingly. A central point is the time frame for the construction of new residential buildings, which is significantly longer than the construction of the factory itself. This could lead to the creation of living space too late in order to meet the increasing demand. According to the association, it is crucial that the groundbreaking ceremony for residential buildings does not even take place with the opening of the factory, because this would be too late.
Future of the Dithmarschen region
The planned battery factory, with an investment volume of 4.5 billion euros, should not only create jobs, but also increase the economic potential of the Dithmarschen region. The construction was already launched by high -ranking political representatives, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, with the federal government and the country provided a total of around 700 million euros in funding. Nevertheless, the question remains open how the regional circumstances can keep up if it is not possible to create enough living space.
