BVB professional Pascal Groß: New responsibility in the DFB team!
In German football there was recently a remarkable personnel decision that could significantly change the position of the national team. Pascal Groß, who only signed BVB a month ago, is appointed to the team council of the German national team. This appointment could not only affect his role in the club, but also at an international level.
From the Bundesliga to the national team: Pascal's career picks up speed. The Mannheim -born, who only made his debut for the national team in September 2023 and has played eight caps so far, is promoted to the team council, according to national coach Julian Nagelsmann. This marks an important step in his still young time at BVB and shows the trust that both club and national team show him.
The new DFB hierarchy according to the home EM
The DFB faces a change: After the home European Championship, several experienced players had to end their international career, which opened the opportunity for new leaders. Nagelsmann had to redesign the team with ̇lkay Gündoğan, Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer and Toni Kroos, who are no longer part of the team. In this new constellation, in which Groß now plays a central role, other players such as Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rüdiger and Kai Havertz have also become recognized leadership players.
"With Pascal we have a player who shows a strong presence both in the field and outside," emphasizes Nagelsmann. His experience and style of play could prove to be valuable for the development of younger talents and help to advance the entire team.
Joshua Kimmich as the new captain
Another crucial aspect of this change is the appointment of Joshua Kimmich as the new captain of the national team. Nagelsmann explained that Kimmich was the obvious candidate for the role. "With his way he fills out the job, he is a role model for the entire group," said the national coach. Kimmich, who is known for his tireless willingness to train, will act as a deputy together with Rüdiger and Havertz.
The new team council, which also includes players such as Jonathan Tah, Niclas Füllkrug and Marc-André Ter Stegen, should offer a "good mix" of the different player personalities, says Nagelsmann. This could create a positive dynamic within the team that is necessary to be successful on the international parquet.
With this step, the DFB tries to set the course for a sustainable future in which younger players are not only available, but also take responsibility. This could significantly shape German football in the coming years.
