Witnesses of the incident were visibly affected and also needed support. At the Kampstraße stop, passengers and employees of DSW21 who had observed the events were looked after by emergency pastors. Similar support was also offered at the Stadtgarten stop. A total of around 30 firefighters were deployed by three guards, while the rescue service moved out with two vehicles and the helicopter.

According to reports, the man had committed shop theft shortly before the accident and tried to save himself on the run. The Dortmund police indicated that the man's escape may have led to a fatal encounter with the subway. His current health situation is still critical and the investigation is ongoing.
