Dresden's dilapidated bridges: Nossener bridge threatens a similar danger!
In Dresden, the dilapidated Nossener Bridge continues to ensure concern. After a partial fall of the Carol Bridge, urgent renovation work must now also be carried out at the Nossener Bridge. On the weekend of 18./19. October the bridge was closed for two nights to renew welding seams on the critical steel structure. During a current exam, the city's alarming assessment was confirmed: the bridge is considered "severely damaged" and received the average grade 2.8. The three-way ratings in the areas of stability, traffic safety and durability for the bridge over the Fabrikstrasse are particularly worrying.
The list of defects is long and alarming: cracks, hollows and flaking are just a few of the problems found. Holger Kalbe, the city employee responsible for the bridge, refers to the need to "find money" for the urgently needed replacement building. This is expected to cost 109 million euros. Preparations are currently being made to redirect the underground district heating tubes for the new structure. The new building should begin in 2026 if the necessary financial resources are provided. Experts warn of further disasters if there are no sufficient investments in the ailing infrastructure, as the example of the Carol Bridge shows.
