Dresden's new chip boom: Is tram line 8 extended in time?
Wilschdorfer Landstraße, 01129 Dresden, Deutschland - Dresden is faced with exciting change: The booming semiconductor industry could create up to 10,000 new jobs by 2030! The new ESMC factory is to open its doors as early as 2027, which is urgently calling the town hall on the scene. In order to manage the overwhelming rush, tram line 8 is now extended to the "Chip-Revier" (Wilschdorfer Landstrasse).
The plans are already in the Macht: the train should drive from the “Brunnenweg” stop shortly before Boxdorf, which could attract 3,500 additional passengers a day. With this measure, around 1,200 car trips would be saved. But while local transport is currently being secured by buses, this is inadequate in the long run. A specific cost and schedule is still missing, but the preliminary planning should be handled by the end of the year. The hope for a punctual completion at the opening of the ESMC factory remains, but Mayor Stephan Kühn remains careful. Political voices from the city council warn of bureaucratic hurdles and even demand that chip companies are involved in the costs. You can find more information about this here .
