Dresden Souvenir hit: Rümmer of the Carol Bridge as a business idea!

A Dresden gift shop, Catapult, has started to sell debris of the collapsed carol bridge as souvenirs. The demand was so high on the first day of sale, last Wednesday that the stones were immediately sold out. Each purchase includes a certificate of authenticity from the demolition company and a badge with a picture of the bridge and the Dresden silhouette. The shop now offers the souvenirs mainly online, with the prices between ten and 20 euros, depending on the size of the stones. In order to be able to offer the stones, the demolition company was contacted, and the debris had to be cleaned first.

While the idea of offering souvenirs from bridge parts was also taken up by the city administration, sales of the Catapult store run independently. Mayor Dirk Hilbert was positive about the project, but suggests using part of the income for the reconstruction of the Carol Bridge. Instead, the shop donates one euro per sold stone to the association "Fernsehturm Dresden e.V." in order to support its financial situation, which has met with some of the mixed reactions. Further information on this topic is to be found.
