Sad pigeon massacre: Tenants in the White Gasse complain about grievances
A worrying discovery on the popular catering mile of the White Gasse in Dresden makes the tenants talk. In the attic of a listed house, several pigeons died in a painful state, which became a real nightmare for the residents.
In the past few months, the tenants have had to struggle with a scandalous vermin problem. The pigeons, which had taken a permanent place in the city population for years, found their way to the attic, only to experience a terrible reality there. Detlev Puchta, a 75-year-old tenant, describes the situation dramatically: "At least eight pigeons have starved and their carcasses have been up here for weeks. The stench is unbearable."
abandoned carcass and health risks
Since the ban on the open windows, the fate of these birds has been sealed. A state that is unacceptable for the house residents. Puchta reports that in addition to the already decaying pigeons, piles of feces pollute the rooms and make the entire environment unsanitary. His wife Stephanie, 80 years old, shows himself frustrated: "We can no longer hang our laundry. Nothing has changed for months."
urgent complaints to the administration remained without an answer for a long time. Another tenant indicates: "We have pointed out several times that the condition is unsustainable, but nothing happened." These grievances are not only uncomfortable, but can also bring serious health risks with them, since the uric acid in the pigeon droppings attacks masonry and ultimately damage the building.
The property management, represented by Berlinhaus Verwaltung GmbH, promised improvements after the local cleaning company was terminated. But despite oral commitments, there was no improvement, which put the patience of the tenant to the test.
Recently, after further inquiries and a dedicated contribution from TAG24, moving began to get moving. On Tuesday afternoon, an employee of the new cleaner who removed the Kadaver was sighted, and the rest of the feces should be removed on Wednesday. These developments were recorded by the tenants with a mixture of relief and skepticism.
The future of pigeons in the White Gasse
But how should it be prevented in the future that such an accident is repeated? The property management has already taken steps to prevent further pigeons from entering the building. The consideration of having special gazefen windows (similar to fly grids) is a first step towards a stable solution.
A representative of the administration expressed that one would aim to prevent the future accommodation of pigeons in the building and thus improve the quality of life of the tenants. "We are aware of the urgency and work on a sustainable solution," said the representative. However, it remains to be seen whether these promises are actually implemented, because the tenants are skeptical and are still skeptical about a complete calming of their worrying situation.
