Care scandal in Nuremberg: Pfleger convicted of severe abuse!

In a shattering case of abuse in the nursing sector, a 44-year-old caregiver was convicted by the Nuremberg District Court. Because of the abuse of two residents of a nursing home, he is faced with a probation penalty of one year and three months between February 2020 and May 2022. He was also imposed on a three -year job ban and he has to do 100 hours of non -profit work. The verdict is final and the accused stated during the trial of being overwhelmed, especially during the Corona pandemic.

The nursing officer was guilty of assault and the preparation of an honorary video. One of the incidents includes, among other things, that he penetrated a resident too deep into the ear canal with a cotton swab and thereby injured the eardrum. In another serious incident, he violently led another resident into his mouth. The court also recommended the accused therapy during the job ban.

attacks in the care industry

This case is unfortunately not an isolated case. According to a study by the professional association for health service and welfare care (BGW), which was presented at the end of 2023, there are around 5,300 violent attacks or sexual violence against nursing staff annually, which leads to a absenteeism of at least three days. The examination included 353,857 accidents of work between 2018 and 2022 and documented over 26,500 incidents of aggression or violence during this time. The areas of elderly and nursing are particularly affected, where almost two thirds of the incidents took place. Nine out of ten employees were mainly physically injured, while one of ten people suffered mental injuries. Inpatient care are violent and ill -treatment against residents a serious problem. Research, such as that of Abner et al. (2019) and Eggert et al. (2023), deal intensively with the signs and the necessary measures to prevent such attacks. The studies show that ill -treatment often assumes not only from the outside, but also from the nursing staff, which increases the complexity of the problem. Nevertheless, measures are required for clarification and prevention to counteract these developments.

It is urgently needed to increase the security standards in care facilities and to raise awareness of violence prevention in order to protect both people in need of care and the nursing staff. Research on this topic is crucial to reduce social grievances and to ensure respectful and safe care.
