Rolex lover in the state of emergency: Alt meets new in Geneva!
The world's best-known watch fair in Switzerland opens in one month, where thousands of dealers, collectors and experts are expected in Geneva. This event attracts watch lovers from all over the world every year and is an important date in the industry. In the context of this upcoming fair, one remembers a remarkable episode from the popular television program "Bares for Rares", in which a special piece came to auction.
Moderator Horst Lichter was dissatisfied that he was not allowed to offer the Rolex “Submariner” by the candidate Georg Pauling. This watch dates from the early 1980s and was acquired by Pauling for 8,900 euros. Despite the good condition, apart from a missing light pearle and a few little flaws on the hands, the experts decided to estimate the value between 12,000 and 13,000 euros. Ultimately, the watch found a buyer who was ready to pay 9,400 euros, the collector Daniel Meyer.
The Rolex Submariner - an iconic model
The Rolex Submariner, introduced in 1953, is considered one of the most important stainless steel sports watches. The first model, the Rolex Submariner Reference 6204, had a toned housing, a black rotating bezel with 60-minute grade and bright hour markings. From the beginning, the clock was known for its waterproofness, which was guaranteed by a screwable crown. Over the years, Rolex has produced numerous versions of the submariner, with many of the original design elements.
Rolex Submariner has experienced various technical adjustments in recent decades - including crown protection devices and the use of safe, synthetic fluorescent. These modifications have contributed to the fact that the submariners remain extremely popular with collectors.

The story of Rolex begins in 1905 when Hans Wilsdorf founded his company for watch sales in London. He dreamed of a precise wristwatch that could be carried on the wrist and fought with the unreliability of many models at that time. Wilsdorf relied on high -precision clockworks, which were made by a Swiss factory in Biel, and developed the brand into the famous name that we know today.
