Security alarm at Berlin's Christmas markets after a knife attack!
Lichtenberg, Deutschland - nag/nag editors -
The Christmas season in Berlin, a festival of joy and coexistence, is overshadowed by a shocking incident. At the beginning of November there was a brutal attack at the Christmas market in Lichtenberg: three unknown men attacked an employee of the toboggan run with a knife. The man suffered minor injuries and was treated on site while the perpetrators fled. This incident alerted the organizers and they are now pulling drastic consequences.
The security situation on the Christmas markets in Berlin is now being examined more. During a visit to the Lichtenberg Christmas market, there was no controls at the entrance. In contrast, all bags are thoroughly checked on the Christmas Avenue at Nollendorfplatz. Daniela Teichert, the spokeswoman for the Lichtenberger Christmas season, emphasizes that the entire site is monitored with cameras and numerous security forces are both visible and undercover are present. After the incident, the number of security forces was even increased.
Security measures on Christmas markets
The organizers do not want to fear the families who visit the Christmas market through pocket controls. "It should be about fun and joy," explains Teichert. The opening times of the market are from Monday to Thursday from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. The market remains closed on Sunday of the Dead and Christmas Eve. The anticipation of the festival is not clouded by these security measures, but the memories of the incident remain present.
