Security day in Mannheim: Police raise the alarm against knife attacks
On the security day, which took place on May 13, 2025, the Mannheim police headquarters implemented numerous security measures to clarify and protect the population about knife attacks. Schools were targeted: Students received lectures on the awareness of violence and knife crime. The prevention work was accompanied by youth protection controls in Mannheim, Heidelberg and the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis.
The results of the extensive controls speak for themselves: 1,828 people and 536 vehicles were checked, which led to 58 criminal complaints and 115 administrative offenses. The police recorded 33 search goals, which resulted in 15 arrests. Among the crimes found were violations of the Narcotics Act and the Weapons Act. There was also a lot going on in the field of drug control: 21 people had to hand in blood samples during the arrests, while four driving licenses were collected due to suspected alcohol or drug abuse. In addition, the officials made cocaine, amphetamine, marijuana and two knives.
