Proceeded and arrested: alcohol and drug rush in Mannheim!
In the early morning hours on Wednesday, a 20-year-old driver in Mannheim caused tumulty scenes. The driver initially escaped a police check when he raced through the city at over 100 km/h and ignored numerous red traffic lights. With his VW he fled over the Friedrich Ebert Bridge towards Käfertal, where a police vehicle blocked his way. But the young man accelerated and almost rammed the police officers who could only save themselves through a courageous leap.
The chase continued in Mannheim-Vogelstang, where the driver finally left his vehicle. A police dog took his trail and found it on a balcony in the Eisenacher Weg. When arrested, the officials noticed alcohol smell and signs of drug influence. A breath test resulted in over 1 per thousand and a drug test reacted positively to cannabis. The car and a folding knife in the trunk were secured. Witnesses that were endangered by the risky driving maneuvers are asked to report to the police.
