125 years of Thuringian Museum: A look at the tea room of the gardener house
In the last part of our series for the 125th anniversary of the Thuringian Museum in Eisenach, the historic kart garden is brought into the spotlight. The beautiful garden, which is one of the most remarkable copies of German garden culture, houses the gardener house, which was built in 1822/23. This year the tea room of the gardener house is also recognized, which is decorated with unique, historical French image wallpapers that tell an ancient story of "Amor and Psyche". These impressive wallpapers were created from 1816 and in 1999, thanks to extensive restoration work, experienced a return in full splendor.
It is particularly noteworthy that the remains of these wallpaper are in such good condition - a stroke of luck! These treasures of the city should not only be preserved, but also brought back to their original environment. The kart garden itself, designed by landscape architects of the 19th century, shows the cultural efforts of the Herzoghaus of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and serves as a place to meet garden artists. The initiatives to maintain and beautify these historical sites are more than just a must - they are a sign of pride for Eisenach.
