VW Emden: Production increase for popular ID.7 Tourer announced

In the world of electric vehicles, a new model of Volkswagen stands out and attracts the attention of the automotive community. The VW ID.7, which was presented last year, did not initially reach the hoped-for sales figures, but the introduction of its combination variant, the ID.7 Tourer, seems to have brought about the turn. The decision to increase production in the Emden plant is a strong sign of the growing popularity of this model.

Although the first seven months of the offer only had 3,187 new registrations in Germany, which corresponds to a market share of only one percent, the plans for the coming year are more promising. The production capacity is to be increased by originally planned 140,000 electric cars to 190,000 units. Such a project not only indicates a positive development, but also to the fact that the Emden plant runs under full load, which implies a two-shift operation.

The market reaction and the focus on the combination

The decision to expand production follows the positive response that the ID.7 Tourer has received since its market launch in summer. The station wagon has proven to be an attractive option, and that in a European market in which only a few electric combinations are available. Factory manager Uwe Schwartz reported that the demand was so high that customers who order an ID.7 tourer today can only count on delivery next year. This shows that consumers are increasingly changing their preferences in the electrical area in search of practical and sustainable vehicles.

The ID.7 Tourer now occupies a significant part of the production capacities, whereby he dominates the production in the factory together with the compact SUV ID.4. Compared to the sedan, the station wagon was already able to achieve significant sales figures, which gives the car manufacturer a feeling of relief. Similarities can also be seen in the classic combustion model Passat, the combination variant of which is traditionally more popular.

The need to increase production

The reasons for this striking production increase are complex. On the one hand, increasing demand for electric vehicles; On the other hand, the need to meet the EU's statutory CO₂ limit values that will come into force next year. Volkswagen, like many other manufacturers, has to stop sufficient electric vehicles to avoid high penalty payments that may arise if the requirements are not met.

The general perception of the VW ID.7, both the limousine and the tourer, is largely positive in terms of the specialist press. In order to continue to survive in this highly competitive market, it is essential to increase the number of manufacturing and offer future -oriented models that meet the needs of customers. Volkswagen's decision to set new standards in production in Emden could provide the company a decisive advantage in the race for the market share of the electric vehicles.
