News from Freiburg: Stadtbahn lines 2 and 3 partially interrupted

The residents of Freiburg can be happy: From July 15th to August 4th, the connection with the Schauinslandbahn is possible from the city center without changing trains. This is made possible by the extension of bus line 21 to the “Holzmarkt” stop. The reason for this is the track and road construction work in the area of the Kaiserbrücke on the B31a, which force the light rail lines 2 and 3 to avoid the section between the Holzmarkt and Johanneskirche.

The track work at the Kaiserbrücke is urgently required, since the track crossing of the B31A is in poor condition due to the high tram framination and heavy traffic. The renewal of the tracks, including the installation of track straps, is intended to ensure better longevity of the rails and ensure a quieter driving experience. In order to minimize the inconveniences for commuters and avoid temporal overlaps, the roadway renovations and the exchange of gas pipes are also carried out at the same time.

The construction work is planned so that there should be no work between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. However, if it is too hot during the day to carry out certain work, they will be moved to the night. This applies above all to concrete and welding work that can only be carried out in certain temperature ranges.

During the construction work, the traffic on the B31A towards the west is guided past the construction site. Line 2 only runs between Hornusstraße and Holzmarkt, while the Omnibus line 21 is extended to the Holzmarkt stop and operates all stops of the light rail line 2. Between Kyburg and Holzmarkt, line 21 will run as a replacement rail traffic in the same clock as the lights.
