Grass harvest is booming in the Märkisches Kreis: farmers breathe up!

The grass harvest in the regions of Märkischer Kreis and Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis was particularly successful this year, thanks to sufficient rainfall and an early beginning of vegetation. Farmers such as Heiner Born, Christoph Berbecker and Dietmar Trimpop reported good income, with some even using up to five grass cuts. This enables farmers to build a buffer for possible bad harvests in the coming years. Despite inconsistent weather, which sometimes affects the crop quality, farmers are generally satisfied with the harvest season, since the animals were well looked after this year and no concentrate from the current harvest was needed.

The Situation with the grain harvest, however, is more mixed. While Dietmar Trimpop was initially pessimistic, he was ultimately able to get an acceptable harvest, but fear that many grain farmers have achieved below -average yields. Heiner Born reports of a decline of almost 20 percent, which is partly due to waterlogging in the fields. The region is currently in the corn harvest, which was favored by warm late summer weeks, so that farmers remain optimistic here too. In summary, it turns out that the harvest season is mostly positive, even if every year it brings its own challenges, reports .
