Sofi Tukker: With Bread in the dance paradise - new album enthusiastic!
Cologne (dpa)-The American dance pop duo Sofi Tukker has brought a breath of fresh air to the music scene with its new album “Bread”. Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halperne present an energetic potpourri from various music styles on their third album. They combine elements of house, Brazilian radio, drum and bass and bossa Nova and add a pinch of pop and Portuguese poetry.
The two artists worked on this record for two years and braided a variety of experiences and impressions. "It definitely feels like the finest album we have ever had," says Halpern. Earlier plans to bring out the album over a year ago were constantly revised because the duo constantly worked on the subtleties.
The concept behind the title
The title “Bread” has a special meaning for the two musicians. It is not only the name of the first song on the album, but also symbolizes the gathering of people. "We called it 'Bread' because people around the world gather for bread to connect and recharge your batteries," explains Hawley-Weld. In addition, “Bread” is an acronym for “Be Realy Energetic and Dance” (in German: be really energetic and dance), which aptly describes the center of your music.
The album offers an intensive dance experience with ten tracks, with particularly songs such as “Guardian Angel”, “Throw Some Ass” and “Spiral” invite you to celebrate. To the latter there was already a striking performance in the final of "Germany’s Next Top Model", in which Heidi Klum supported the two artists.
influences from Brazil
"Hey Homie" represents a special facet of the album, and this song was particularly impressed by the two. "We both have the same favorite song. 'Hey Homie' goes to our heart," said Hawley-Weld. In contrast to many energetic tracks, it radiates a more relaxed Vibe, but keeps an infectious catchy tune potential.
In addition, songs such as “Jacaré” and “Cafuné”, which underline the Brazilian influences, can also be found on “Bread”. Hawley-Weld, who was born in Frankfurt am Main and grew up in Canada and Atlanta, spent a lot of time in Brazil and speaks Portuguese fluently. These cultural elements flow into the music of Sofi Tukker and show the variety of their influences.
The duo was founded in 2014 when the two artists who met during their studies decided to make music together. With the “Drinkee” debut single, which was nominated for a Grammy, they quickly gained attention. After the debut album "Treehouse" (2018) and the consequences "Wet Tennis" (2022) is "Bread" her latest milestone.
"We put a lot of time and energy into this project. I think we have become better songwriters," said Hawley-Weld about the development of the duo. Your music should motivate the listeners to leave the worries of everyday life behind and enjoy life.
With their new music in their luggage, concerts in Germany are also due in November. Sofi Tukker will perform in Hamburg and Berlin, as well as in the preliminary program of the Norwegian DJs Kygo in Cologne and inspire their fans with their powerful beats.
cultural connection through music
The extraordinary mix of various music styles and cultural influences that Sofi Tukker combine in their album “Bread” shows how music can act as a bridge between humans and cultures. Through the combination of energy and dance - regardless of language - you want to create the feeling of community that is particularly important today. The message behind "Bread" is clear: to come together and celebrate, leave the worries behind and just live.
The inspiration behind the songs by Sofi Tukker extends far beyond their musical influences. Hawley-Weld and Halpern are not only musicians, but also artists who incorporate their identity and culture into their work. She has strongly shaped her relationship with nature and with her personal experiences, especially in Brazil. The two artists are passionate travelers and the experiences on their travels are reflected in the diversity of their music. For example, the use of Portuguese not only includes the language, but also the cultural stories that they experienced in Brazil during their time.
An important aspect of Sofi Tukker's music is the community that you promote through your content. In "Bread" the idea of getting together and the connection through music is emphasized. Many of their concerts are characterized by an atmosphere of being together and celebrating. This philosophy runs through her entire discography, in which the audience is asked to move, dance and share positive feelings. Concerts by Sofi Tukker are often a kind of collective experience in which fans and artists combine on an emotional level.
artistic development and change of style
The development of the duo over the years is remarkable. Her debut album “TreeHouse” took part in a different musical course than the current work. While the first album combined elements of indie pop and electronic music, “Bread” is clearly shaped by different global influences, especially by the Brazilian radio and the Bossa Nova. These stylistic shifts not only reflect the personal development of your artistic identity, but also a conscious desire to explore new horizons and to celebrate the musical diversity.
To support this, you have been looking for close cooperation with international artists and producers to be inspired and integrate new sounds. Halpers emphasize that these partnerships not only bring technical diversity, but also expand cultural perspectives that influence their creative work.
live performance and fan interaction
An outstanding feature of the live appearances by Sofi Tukker is interactivity with the audience. They manage to actively involve visitors into their performance, creating an unmistakable atmosphere of the unit. This not only motivates the fans to dance, but also to sing along and celebrate, which creates a strong sense of community.
The feedback from fans shows that this interactivity is not only valued on social media, but is also an important part of the experience directly in the concerts itself. The connection between Sofi Tukker and their audience is central to their success and is shown in the high number of ticket demand for their upcoming concerts in Germany. The announcement to appear at Kygo in the pre -program also illustrates its range and popularity within the music scene.
