Waiting times for the S-Bahn: a student pulls the statistics
a year full of waiting times: the reality of commuters in Munich
In 2023, an attentive statistics student from Munich, Felix Schweikl (24), created an revealing picture of the unsustainable train delays of the S-Bahn through his careful documentation. The combination of personal experiences and data -based analysis shows the frustration, which many commuters in the Erding region and beyond.
The precise data of a commuter
Schweikl has been going regularly with the S-Bahn from St. Koloman to Marienplatz in Munich for six years and has written a 35-page presentation during this time, in which he documented the delays, failures and ticket controls. He lost an incredible 27 hours and 38 minutes last year because he had to wait for late trains. This corresponds to a significant period of time that is very hindy for his studies and personal life.
unpunctuality as a norm
On average, Schweikl had a delay of more than four minutes on 419 trips in 2023. With 33.9 percent unpunctual trips, this year has been the worst for him since his records began. The months from October to December are particularly problematic, in which more than 40 percent of the S-Bahne were late. November stands out with a terrifying 58.5 percent.
A look at the causes
Deutsche Bahn shows an average punctuality of 87.7 percent, but Schweikl explains that these statistics do not reflect reality. Many failures are not counted as delays, which leads to a distorted picture. On its route, the S2 is the most unpunctual line in the entire network, mainly due to poor infrastructure and external influences such as tracks and vehicle disorders.
The influence on the commuter community
The constant delays and failures have far -reaching consequences for the commuter community. Schweikl also grasped the experiences of his sister, mother and a friend and found that they were waiting for delays for 86 hours and 50 minutes. The psychological effects of these recurring frustrations should not be underestimated: angry commuters who are late at work not only burden their own performance, but also the atmosphere in the workplace.
outlook for the future
With a dark outlook for the coming year, Schweikl predicts that 2024 may be even worse. Without significant changes in the S-Bahn infrastructure and the operating processes, it will be difficult for commuters to complete their daily trips on time. As soon as these problems are not addressed, it is unlikely that the situation will improve itself.
call to the community
The experiences of Felix Schweikl are not only an individual problem, but also reflect the reality of many Munich commuters. It is time to meet these challenges with an open discussion and corresponding measures. What measures should you be taken in your opinion? Share your thoughts in the comment area.
